The GLBMA introduces the Teacher Grant

Part of the Great Lakes Bay Manufacturers Association’s mission is to educate today’s local youth about the world of manufacturing and the region’s rich industrial history. Since 1912, manufacturing has played a vital role in Michigan and the Great Lakes Bay Region.

The purpose of our teacher grant is to provide funding for projects that align with the GLBMA mission but may not be covered by general budgets or other funding sources.

Grant Guidelines:

  • Applicants must be a teacher at a public, private, parochial, charter, or home school association/group.
  • The school must be located in one of the following Michigan counties: Arenac, Bay, Iosco, Midland, Saginaw, or Tuscola.
  • Grant requests may be up to $500; multiple grants may be awarded during each grant cycle.
  • Awards are limited to one per teacher/project.
  • Funds may be used for:
    • Busing and transportation
    • Guest speakers
    • Off-site event lunches (ie. Chamber or EDA luncheons - with manufacturing or skilled trades focus)
    • Field trips
    • Equipment or materials not available through traditional funding that encourage or strengthen skilled trades education
  • Grant deadlines: January 15th and October 15th each year. Awards will be announced following the next GLBMA board meeting after the application deadline.
  • Applicants may attach supporting documents such as event flyers, cost estimates, transportation quotes, project scope statements, or budgets. While optional, additional information can help determine funding priority in case of multiple applications.

Testimonial

The education grant provided by the GLBMA was able to provide the Essexville Hampton Public Schools girls coding club with multiple 3D printers that we will use to build student skill sets, confidence, and self efficacy in regards to engineering. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the GLBMA in bringing a much needed technology to the forefront of both our girls coding club and our school district.

Sample Projects

  • 3D printers for robotics program
